Are you cold?
Would you like to get Warm?
Then Read this...

  1. Step 1
Clean out your closet once the weather dips. Be sure to remove and store all of your summer clothes and any items that will be too thin or light to wear in the upcoming months. Bring your fall and winter wardrobes out of storage, and organize your closet according to clothing item, size or use.

  2. Step 2
Replace any pants, jackets, socks, hats, scarves or gloves that may have become damaged or unusable while in storage. Be sure to check these items for holes before you place them in your closet. You don't want to find out that your parka has a gigantic hole in it once you're caught in a rainstorm.

  3. Step 3
Place a weather-resistant blanket in your car, as well as an old towel or two. The towel will allow you to remove at least some of the water or moisture that accumulates on you and your children throughout the rainy season when you're out running errands. The blanket will provide warmth in extremely cold weather, and could become essential should your car break down in harsh weather.

  4. Step 4
Keep thick socks in an easily accessible public space at home, such as a hall closet or laundry room. Be sure that every member of the family has one dry pair available at all times. These will be very useful after removing rainy boots and socks or after long playdates in the snow.

  5. Step 5
Store mini space heaters near family gathering places, such as living rooms or family rooms. Point them toward everyone's feet when the weather is cold. Do not leave the heaters on unattended, however, and never leave them on overnight, especially in a child's bedroom.

  6. Step 6
Place flannel or wool blankets behind couches, under beds, and in linen closets so that anyone needing a little extra warmth will know just where to find them. Wash the blankets every 2 weeks or so if they haven't been used.

  7. Step 7
Buy sweaters, sweatshirts, flannel pajamas, and other cold-weather accessories in the spring. These winter items will be significantly cheaper, oftentimes up to 75 percent off. You can stock up on clearance items that can just be worn around the house.

  8. Step 8
Check your home's insulation before the cold-weather season begins to ensure that you're not primed for unexpected drafts. Check your heating system and hot water pipes as well to be sure that they're not in need of repair before they become vital to the comfort and warmth of your family.

  9. Step 9
Cook warm, hearty meals that will taste great in cold weather. Stews, soups, roasts, oatmeal and anything else that can come out of the oven or crock pot are ideal. The same can be said for cold-weather drinks, including hot chocolate and coffee.
